This time I will be reviewing the dinner at the hotel where I stayed. The name of the hotel is Hakone Lake Hotel. The hotel itself is located on a mountain and there is nothing nearby. The closest convenience store was a 5-minute drive away, so it was a really quiet place.
This time, we booked the shabu-shabu course. When we entered the venue, our seats were already taken and we were shown to our seats right away. We were seated at a table with four chairs, which was the perfect size for two people.
When we first sat down, the staff explained the menu for the day. There was also a menu list, so it was good to know the names of the dishes. The shabu-shabu pot was already heated up and we were told that they would come back later to remove the lid. It was good that I didn't have to do it myself. There were two types of rice: white rice and cooked rice, which was served buffet style with free refills. Rice, pork miso soup, and pickles (two types) were available for free refills. Gloves were provided to protect against corona virus, and we were able to use ladles and spatulas without worry. There were alcoholic and soft drinks available, and you could order them on the spot. The drinks were charged separately, and the price was a little high, which was a little negative.
The staff came to take the lid off the pot just as we were about to start eating, which was very nice because we could eat it hot. When we were seated, all the dishes except for the main dish were already laid out, and the presentation was very clean and good looking. The shabu-shabu was also prepared with two kinds of sauce, ponzu and sesame, and it was a good point that I could adjust it to my personal taste. Also, when the fire in the pot went out in the middle of the meal, the staff immediately noticed and replaced it with a new one. There was no need for me to say anything to the staff.
The food tasted good in general. The shabu-shabu meat was very tender and the quantity of four pieces was just right. The appetizers were good, with three different bite-sized portions, something I don't usually eat. The fish carpaccio with horseradish oil tasted like sashimi, but it didn't have much of a horseradish flavor. We had eaten about two-thirds of the dishes on the table when the main dish, sauteed sea bream, arrived. At the same time, they cleared away the plates that we had finished eating, so we could use the desk more widely. The plate of sauteed sea bream was stylish and beautifully arranged. The taste was not as good as I had imagined, but it was good as usual. There were three kinds of desserts: strawberry jelly, green tea cake, and strawberry cake. Each one was small in size, but it was just right since I was quite full from the meal. There were three kinds of desserts, but two of them were made with strawberries, so I thought it would be better to have more varieties.
There was no time limit, but we ate for about an hour and a half. It was a good amount and I was full. Overall, I was very satisfied.
As for the price, it was 5800 yen per person plus drinks. This time I ordered a glass of plum wine with soda for 650 yen. So the total cost was 6,450 yen. I thought the price was a little high, but considering the taste of the food, the presentation, and the attentiveness of the staff, it was probably reasonable. Aside from the cost of drinks.
The shabu-shabu was really delicious as the name of the course included shabu-shabu. I would like to go there again.
