Food Book

"A History of the World in 6 Glasses"

This is a food-related book I'm reading now. So, I want to share with you guys.

The author is Tom Standage, who is deputy editor of the Economist and wrote six books. This book is New York Bestseller and it scored 4.6 stars on Amazon.

"A History of the World in 6 Glasses" tells the story of humanity from the Stone Age to the 21st century through the lens of beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. This time, I want to tell a little about wine's history I learned from the book.

The origins of wine are prehistoric, and the details are not well understood. Archaeological evidence suggests that wine was made in the Zagros Mountains during the Neolithic period, between 900 and 400 BC. It is located in what is now Armenia and northern Iran.

In Mesopotamia, wine was only available in small quantities because it had to be shipped from the mountainous wine-growing regions to the northeast, where the capital was located. In addition, the cost of transporting wine made it at least ten times more expensive than beer. Only a select few were allowed to taste it, and it was often used for religious purposes. Because of its rarity and high price, it was considered suitable for serving to the gods. In fact, most of them had never tasted wine before.

It also explain the process that how wine became a common drink, but I don't think I write the detail here. If you want to know, you may read the book too.

Seeing world histoey from the drink perspective is an innovative idea and interesting. I want to keep on reading!!
