Hungry Planet

This time, I want to share the family and food culture related to the chapter assigned to me from the book, "Hungry Planet"

My part was Craig's family. They live in America. There are Craig, Regan, Andrea and Ryan. Craig is a teacher at Northan California high school, and his wife, Regan is a counselor at University in California. The family spends $159.18 per week. Regan tries to find a balance between what their own two children, Andrea and Ryan want and what they actually need. Because of Regan's hour-long commute, she doesn’t have time to think what to cook when she backs to home, but she likes cooking. So, she manages to make a nutritious meal and doesn’t regularly serve convenience food. When she buys food, she is looking for low in sodium, low in fat, not too processed, fresh, and organic, if they're not too expensive. The family generally eat at home, trying to set a good example, however, a few times a month they take the children out to eat Happy Meals at McDonald.

The similar point to mine is sometimes we eat at out. Not like Craig’s family we don’t go so frequently, but we do. I think many families do like us.

The different point is we don’t go McDonald with family. My family sometimes go out to eat, but we usually choose a good restaurant. We don’t eat fast food. And also, I don’t really hear that other Japanese family go out to eat at McDonald. I think it is a cultural difference.

How about you? Is your family similar to Craig's family or different?
